THE BEST SUNSETS IN THE ALGARVE

The Algarve is full of places with incredible views to watch the sunset, but Sagres, Ponta da Piedade, Ria Formosa, Cacela-a-Velha and Pico Alto are considered the best places to enjoy a good sunset.

Sagres

Ponta do Cabo de São Vicente, also known as “the end of the world”, as it was from this place that caravels went out to discover, at the time of the “Descobrimentos”, it is a meeting place for many people to watch the sunset.

Usually, if you go to see the sunset, arriving relatively early is essential to find a comfortable place to enjoy the sunset.

There are several ways to get to Cabo de São Vicente, but the best and easiest way to access is by renting a scooter, as the sides of the road leading to the Cabo de São Vicente lighthouse are being filled with cars and this rental, you will be able to park closer to the lighthouse.

Ponta da Piedade

Ponta da Piedade is located in Lagos and is considered one of the best places to see the sunset. This can be watched either by scooter or by boat.

Its sunset acquires a unique beauty, which has led many to describe the sunset as the most beautiful in the world. When the sun's rays fall on the sea water, they give it a bright hue and the caves that are there have golden hues, suggesting that nature is represented as a treasure.

Ria Formosa

Ria Formosa is a place full of life that stretches from the municipality of Loulé to Vila Real de Santo António, being a great place for bird watching, as well as watching the sunset.

This becomes the stage for many birds during sunset, as it is the time when many of them go for the last food of the day.

Cacela-a-Velha

Cacela-a-Velha, belongs to the municipality of Vila Real de Santo António, being located in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, having grown during the 17th century, due to having integrated the coastal defensive system

In 1283, King Dinis granted the charter to Cacela-a-Velha, given its medieval economic and social importance.

Due to the progressive silting of the river and the devastation caused by the earthquake of 1755, Cacela lost its status as a town and became part of Vila Real de Santo António.

The Igreja Matriz da Nossa Senhora da Assunção in Cacela built in 1518 is very popular for weddings, due to its medieval characteristics, but it is in this village that it is possible to be dazzled by a sunset overlooking the Ria Formosa, being close to the Fortress that is located there by the sea.

Pico Alto

The village of Pico Alto is located in São Bartolomeu de Messines and despite being located in the countryside of the Algarve, it is one of the most popular places for tourists to watch the sunset.

In this village, the area where it is possible to enjoy the sunset is called “Picalte”, and a panoramic swing was installed, so that those who visited the place could better enjoy the sunset.

Sarnadas

Aldeia das Sarnadas, in Alte, is the place chosen by Algarve Riders to watch the sunset. Here you can be dazzled by a great panoramic view between hills and valleys.

The Hill of Sarnadas, with an incredible panoramic view, is the place where our Full Day Buggy and Quad tours pass. It is also here that our Sunset Safari takes place, where our guides take the opportunity to make known the sunset that disappears between the hills. For more information click here
